Aloe betsileensis, a charming Madagascan aloe, is a mid-sized, nearly stemless plant with an open rosette of upwardly-growing lance-shaped leaves, reaching 8 to 16 inches in length. With up to 50 pale blue leaves, which take on a pink tinge when mature, and armed with reddish thorns along their margins, it presents a stunning appearance. Resembling Aloe conifera but larger, it boasts more branched flowers that start orange before opening into yellow blooms. Solitary and nearly stemless, it grows up to 3 feet wide and 2 feet tall, forming a large rosette with leaves showcasing green, purple, or blue hues, accentuated by striking red teeth. Flowering in winter with yellow blooms, either solitary or in 1 or 2-branched racemes, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating drought and temperatures down to 28°F.
