Smoky Purple
Smoky Purple is a medium to light gray with a touch of purple. The ice dyed sample was made on a 10X10" cotton square. It was on a rack for drainage; we used about a cup of crushed ice on top with a level 1/4 tsp. dye sprinkled on the ice. Ice dyeing is unpredictable; the swatch is just to give you a general idea. For the traditional reactive dyeing process you will need dye powder, soda ash, urea (opt.), fabric detergent (opt.), dust mask, gloves, and safety glasses. Dye Mixing: For the liquid color swatch, we used 1/2 tsp Smoky Purple dye powder to 1/2 cup warm water with 1/2 tsp urea. You can use less dye powder to get a lighter hue or more dye powder for a darker hue. Use your own reactive dye procedure or one of the dyeing procedures from the links below. Happy dyeing!
