Benzoin Essential Oil
This ravishing and concentrated resin is extracted from the Benzoin tree (Styrax benzoin) that mainly grows in Malaysia and Indonesia today. Its scent can be compared to that of vanilla, with a balsam-like nuance. It is believed that ancient papyrus records recorded that this aromatic resin was traded into China and Egypt across the Red Sea and was typically ground into a powder, mixed with other fragrant materials, and turned into incense.
