Meet TAKAZAWA's Small Candle & Candle Stand Tohaku Set, handcrafted by a family run business in Ishikawa, Japan, who has been creating traditional Japanese candles, also known as 'wa-rousoku', in the same way since 1892. Perfect as a gift, this set includes a small cast iron candle stand and seven small sumac candles, neatly packaged in a reusable wooden box. The thick, refined shape of these candles is meant to call to mind that of a sturdy pine tree and pays homage to a famous screen painting called "The Pine Trees" screen, painted by Tohaku Hasegawa, who is considered a great painter of Japan. Reflecting the landscape of Nanao City, filled with pine trees, the flame of this candle is an extension of the gentle lines of these trees, bringing to mind a rustic simplicity. Materials: Haze (sumac) wax, casted iron The wax harvested from sumac trees, called Haze, originally came from Ryukyu (Okinawa) in the Edo period (1603 - 1868). Haze trees are found in Western Japan and have bee
