The thick, refined shape of these candles is meant to call to mind that of a sturdy pine tree and pays homage to a famous screen painting called "The Pine Trees" screen, painted by Tohaku Hasegawa, who is considered a great painter of Japan.  Reflecting the landscape of Nanao City, filled with pine trees, the flame of this candle is an extension of the gentle lines of these trees, bringing to mind a rustic simplicity.
