All carpets and rugs are original and consummate hand-created works of art. But within this classification of handwork there are different grades and qualities of carpets. Every knot formed in what is often called "The Weaver's Trance" or a meditative state is an individual signature that shows physical and stylistic origin as well as the individuality of the weaver.  That is why the design can tell you a lot about the origin of a rug but the knot signature often a lot more. Knots look to rug experts what brush strokes on a painting reveal about the artist that painted it to art experts. Every city and tribe weaves rugs with distinguishing characteristics very much unique to them.
