Antique Qing dynasty hollow coin silver child / baby pendant. This ornament shows the front and back of the child. The pendant alone measures 1.4 inches x 0.6 inch.. The amulet hangs from a carnelian bead and a silver ring. 2.5 inches total length. Women wore baby charms for fertility and protection of children This is an antique piece from the dynasty that fell in 1911. In the 1970s to the mid 1980s, Chinese workers added beads, cords and chains to these Qing Dynasty artifacts.The components of this pendant would have been parts of larger ritual or ceremonial pieces during the dynasty period. This piece came from the estate of a dealer who acquired many of these artifacts. They have become increasingly rare and today, some reproductions of much poorer quality are being produced.
