Walnut Hulls Ground - The Black Walnut Tree (Juglans nigra) is native to the Eastern United States. The hard walnut shells are covered with a thick fleshy hull that can be collected and fermented in water for 1-2 years to produce a deep brown. Walnut is a substantive dye, i.e. no mordant is required to produce fast colors; however, much darker values are obtained on mordanted fiber. The Earthues Walnut Hulls are collected, dried, and then finely powdered. Five percent wof produces a medium value brown on mordanted fiber. Color:  Butternut to Umber
