Crateagus phaenopyrum Known in Ireland as prime fairy habitat. Hardy and thorny growing 20-30 ft. White flowers in spring after the apples bloom. Berries in the fall for wildlife and as a highly nutritious heart tonic. Grows best in well drained soils with full sun. Washington hawthorn is a native species noted for its attractive flowers and foliage, bright red fruits, long straight thorns, and fall color. It is a small, low-branching, deciduous tree that typically grows 25 to 30 feet tall with a rounded crown.
