Winterberry 2 ft clump

Ilex verticillata Tied perhaps with red-twig dogwood, the best shrub for the winter landscape in Vermont. Female plants are covered in bright red berries persisting well into winter until finally cleaned off by birds. Winterberry does fine in partial shade. One male plant can pollinate up to five female plants. Winter red grows 6-8 ft and Red sprite is more compact growing  to about 4 ft. 'Winter Red' pollinates with 'Southern Gentleman' and 'Red Sprite' pollinates with 'Jim Dandy.
