To conjure the spirit and energy of The Asteroid Belt's magnificence, artist and knife sculptor Tristan Dare forges a one-of-a-kind chef knife as unique and extraordinary as this Galaxy which houses each. A mosaic of iron-based alloys, both terrestrial and extraterrestrial in origin, form a 235mm / 9.3" blade that is not only exquisite in form, but also shaped, hardened, and sharpened with care and precision for use in the hands of the chef. To create the blade, Tristan developed a damascus pattern of his own design using 1084 and 15n20 carbon alloys, then went on to formulate a distinct and separate steel at his studio which includes raw iron derived directly from the Muonionalusta meteorite. Before being discovered in Scandinavia in 1906 near the border of Sweden and Finland, the Muonionalusta is thought to have traveled through the solar system at fantastic speed for over 4.56 billion years before impacting Earth approximately one million years ago.
