REPLICA ON-FIELD BASEBALL SWEATERS JUST LIKE HOW THEY WORE IT History: After the departure of the Athletics for Oakland in 1968 political pressure in the form of Missouri Senator Stuart Symington led the authorities at MLB to accelerate their expansion schedule and ensure a replacement team for Kansas City. The new Royals (the name was chosen by fans in a “name the team” contest) entered the American League in 1969, along with the ill-fated Seattle Pilots.
