Romeo Gigli
Romeo Gigli is an Italian designer from the region of Romagna who started working in fashion in his late 30s after studying architecture and traveling the world. Traveling was for Romeo the natural succession, as an adult that had conquered his freedom, of his childhood spent with his nose buried in the books of his father’s antique library and absorbing the beauty of rare collector pieces. Romeo travelled the world far and wide, discovering an inaudible passion for Asia, visiting from the metropoli of India and China to the remote lands of Tibet. India is the magical place that inspired Romeo to create, working on his first clothes in the 1970s in NYC with Dimitri where among other things Romeo created a deconstructed men’s jacked that won him the 1990 Woolmark Award. From there Romeo went on to become one of the most important figures in fashion, famously known for the aesthetic revolution in both menswear, and womenswear not limited to but including the colours, signs and embroide
