Soursop (Guanábana) Tree

The soursop tree (Annona muricata), also known as graviola, is a tropical evergreen tree native to the Caribbean and Central America. It typically grows to a height of 25-30 ft at maturity with broad, glossy, dark green leaves that have a slightly leathery texture. The tree produces large, heart-shaped fruits covered with soft, prickly spines. These fruits, which can weigh up to 6.8 kg (15 lbs), have a sweet, tangy flavor and creamy white flesh. Soursop is valued for its medicinal properties, with various parts of the tree being used in traditional medicine for their purported antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. The tree thrives in warm, humid climates and well-drained, slightly acidic soils.
