About This Composition "Dona Nobis Pacem" is often sung as a canon, also called a round. This inventive approach has one melody that re-starts at pre-determined measures. Each new part becomes a harmony to the original melody. The words, which mean "Grant Us Peace", come from the Latin Mass. The origin of the melody is unknown (most hymnals list it as "traditional"). It is sometimes attributed to Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, though numerous sources attribute it to Mozart. Regardless of its origin, this is a near perfect first song for your ukulele and bass ensemble. This arrangement is best suited to Low-G tuning, though there is a High-G uke part included. Because this is a canon, each uke player is playing the same part. This is a nice way to find out the levels of your players right from the start.  Canons are an essential part of any elementary music education and they are useful for adult groups, too. What starts as a melody eventually becomes harmony.
