About This Composition This song is a masterpiece by one of the most celebrated composers of all time, Johann Sebastian Bach. Originally, this was a work for strings, vocalists, and continuo, which in baroque music, is an accompanying part that includes a bassline and harmonies, typically played on a keyboard instrument and with other instruments such as cello or lute. This arrangement is an excerpt from the cantata BWV 147. This movement is commonly known by the English translation of the first line of German text Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring. The music's wide popularity has led to numerous arrangements and transcriptions, such as for the classical guitar and, in Wendy Carlos' album Switched-On Bach, on the Moog synthesizer.
