This was a necessary shirt to make. Being a black woman in America the image of the "strong" black woman woman has been deeply embedded into the culture in every part of their lives. The black woman is always depicted as being loud, angry, aggressive, mean, not feminine, ghetto, too promiscuous & rude. In tv and movies black women are never seen as gentle or even allowed to be such. They are not given the same grace & femininity as their non-black co-stars. They are not shown with the same softness & beauty as their non-black co stars. Then colorism plays an extra role in the depiction of black women by depicting darker skinned women as more aggressive & undesirable in comparison to their lighter skin counterparts. The black woman in American culture honestly never catches a break. And black women deserve it. They deserve to finally have space to be vulnerable and to not be so guarded all the time.
