The Holden Prayer

The Holden Prayer /// Archival PrintHolden Village is a remote Lutheran retreat center in Chelan, Washington deep in the Cascade Mountains. Using ink and watercolor I illustrated "The Holden Prayer" using imagery from around the village. The illustrations highlights a range of seasons: a snow covered cabin with smoke curling from a chimney, the fireweed plant that springs up around the village, the iconic view of Copper Peak and Buckskin Mountain from the village, lodgepole pine cones, often serotinous meaning only fire will trigger their opening and a pine tree with wild light glowing beyond it. Eric Milner-White gave to this beloved prayer, published in a little book, Daily Prayer (Oxford, 1941).
