Winifred

Elton credits Winifred as one of his idols. At age three, he began playing the piano on his own, and shocked his family by playing by ear her hit 'The Skater’s Waltz'. Elton said that Winnifred is “a big, immensely jolly Trinidadian lady” with a “sense of glee”. He also loved “the way she would lean back and look at the audience with a huge grin on her face while she was playing, like she was having the best time in the world" — a style that Elton went on to use himself.
