Summary: The Gibson SG went through a rather major redesign in 1972, moving away from the vibrola tailpiece that had been with the model since the beginning and replacing it with a new "wide-travel" version of the Tune-O-Matic bridge, going back to the "Small Guard" looks of the first run, and adding the volute at the rear of the headstock which was supposed to decrease the likeliness of headstock breaks. This 1978 SG Standard is fine vintage condition. The bridge pickup has been swapped to a Gibson ’57 Classic. The control knobs have been changed with correct speed knobs. Body: Mahogany with a Cherry finish. Neck: Mahogany with a Rosewood fingerboard, 24.75” scale length, 1 9/16” nut width, 22 frets, pearl block inlays. Pickups/Hardware: One original humbucker in the neck position, ’57 Classic in the bridge position, Grover tuning keys, harmonica style bridge/stop bar tailpiece, 2x volume/2x tone controls/3-way pickup selector.
