Eucalyptus, "Blue" (E. globulus) Essential Oil Common Names: Eucalyptus, Tasmanian Blue Gum, Southern Blue-gum, Blue Gum Family: Myrtle Eucalyptus globulus is the very large species of Eucalyptus tree with shedding strips of bark, familiar to many of us from the extensive plantings of the trees in California, and in other Mediterranean climates in Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, and the Caucasus, and at higher altitudes in some tropical locations. Its original distribution was confined to small areas of southernmost Australia and northern Tasmania. Traditionally Eucalyptus scent has been used for decongestant and uplifting properties. This is a favorite for humidifiers when kids have congestion. Note, the color of this oil is not blue.
