ARTISAN: Golden Editions ORIGIN: Africa IMPACT: Heritage Craft, Handmade, Human Welfare, Eco-conscious, Women-Led Developed by Sara Efia, Golden Editions is a design studio and workshop making handmade objects in Ghana. These contemporary pieces pay tribute to heritage craft using traditional Bolga basket weaving techniques from Northern Ghana. Each lamp is handwoven by a skilled artisan using locally grown Veta Vera grass. Following harvest the grass is twisted and untwisted building resilience before being bundled and hand dyed with natural pigments over an open fire. The lamps are then woven at home or outside with the community collectively. In 2020 Golden Edition built an association with an aim to democratize education in the weaving communities and provide resources to further the educational initiatives for Ghanaian youth.
