18 Armed Cundi Bodhisattva Thangka The Bodhisattva Cundi or Chundi is very popular in Chinese esoteric Buddhism, but her origin is linked to the Indian Karandavyuha Sutra and precisely the Cundi Dharani mantra. The sutra is based on Avalokiteshvara, the concept of Buddhahood, it introduces the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum, and Cundi is referred to as the 'mother Goddess of the seventy million Buddhas.'Because of the close relation with the bodhisattva of compassion, Cundi is worshipped as a manifestation of Guanyin in China and Kannon in Japan.
