2016 Domaine Chanson Charmes-Chambertin

We have a great vintage Grand Cru red Burgundy buy today from Chanson, which is starting to show well after almost a decade. Domaine Chanson, founded in 1750, bottles a serious Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru from old vines on well-drained limestone and brown clay at the foot of the slope, a terroir that delivers incredible depth with mineral drive. 2016 was a frost-affected but classically styled Côte de Nuits vintage, characterized by low yields and vibrant acidity. The fruit was hand-picked, mostly destemmed, and fermented in small, temperature-controlled vats with gentle extraction. It was then aged for about 15 to 18 months in French oak, with a modest share of new barrels, allowing the site to lead.
