Modest Mouse "March Into the Sea"
Lesson description: Modest Mouse's We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank is among my all time favorite guitar records, right up there with Television's Marquee Moon and The Church's Starfish. In general, I love when two guitarists work together to create a jangly, unhinged quilt of twang that's very much not about badassery or heroics, but rather making something together that is greater than what they could do on their own. Teamwork! I didn't even know it was Johnny Marr in the left speaker until I read his book (which is great, btw). It sounds like he and Isaac Brock pushed each other just the right amount to create some really really great music. In a weird way, it's kinda how Don Felder and Joe Walsh pushed each other to make those classic Eagles guitar parts. Did I just do that? Draw a comparison from Eagles to Modest Mouse?? I might as well burn my Hipsters Local 506 Union Card! Blasphemy! Video version: https://youtu.be/63pC9zUFzjk Format: Sibelius-created digital score with
