Opulent 19th century French empire gilt wood console table featuring a marbleized limestone top with partial shell fossil remnants. The marble specimen is a dark garnet color with white flecks or shell and veins giving the console a dramatic appearance. The stone is mounted in an impressive conforming gilt wood table with a thick frieze decorated with neoclassical motif borders centered by a Napoleonic oak leaf wreath. Supported by four tapered, fluted column legs conjoined by a large stretcher. The curved stretchers are centered by a large burning torch finial in the first Empire style.
