Chinese Six-Panel Carved Hardstone Lacquered Coromandel Screen

Magnificent Chinese export six panel folding coromandel screen featuring hand-carved soapstone and hardstone decoration. The lacquered panels have recessed windows showcasing hand-carved scholars objects, vases, birds, and intricate, colorful flowers. The borders are incised with colorful natural pigments that have an aged patina with fading to commensurate age and use. The reverse side features flora and fauna landscapes in parcel gilt and dark red lacquer. The carved stones are well preserved and mostly complete and intact. The finish has a desirable aged patina.
