American Acacia Hotel Wrought Iron Balcony Floor Grate

DETAILS A heavy, antique, balcony floor grate or deck salvaged from a historic Colorado Renaissance Revival hotel. PROVENANCE Acacia Hotel (104 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado, built 1907) Architect: Thomas MacLaren (Scottish-American, 1863-1928). MacLaren was active in Colorado Springs from 1894-1928. Builder: Roberts and Bishoff. This 150-room Renaissance Revival hotel featured 12-inch thick brick walls, electric lights, steam heat, telephones, a café, a ballroom, and sample rooms for traveling salesmen. It boasts views of the Acacia Park and Pike's Peak in the distance. A fourth floor was added in 1910. In 1989 it was converted to an apartment building.
