In the heart of Patagonia, a realm where the wild reigns supreme, stands the awe-inspiring Cerro Torre, its jagged spires piercing the sky like a sculptor's masterpiece. While many admire this iconic peak from afar at Laguna Torre, my journey took me deeper—into the very soul of the valley—to witness its grandeur up close. Reaching this vantage point was no ordinary endeavour. It demanded crossing a swaying wire over icy torrents, trekking across a glacial wilderness, and camping atop the rugged Glacier Torre. Together with my climbing partner, we braved these untamed landscapes with our sights set on a climbing objective: the legendary Saint Exupéry spire in the neighbouring Fitz Roy range. The journey began long before sunrise, with boots crunching over loose scree and hands gripping cold boulders in the inky blackness of 3 a.m. As we ascended, the first whispers of dawn unveiled Cerro Torre in all its majesty.
