Location: Hornsund, Svalbard Gnålberget mountain is one of many goliath mountains in Svalbard. The sun-bathed left side of the mountain lays host to a bird cliff, supporting thousands of nesting black-legged kittiwakes and Brünnich’s guillemots. While the shadowed right side hosts nothing more than snow and rock. This contrast between both sides of the mountain is what drew me to compose this shot while onboard our expedition vessel. It embodies Svalbard's extreme climate. Illustrating how wildlife and fauna can survive and thrive almost anywhere. This shot was taken in June during the summer months. I could only imagine how different it would look in the middle of winter. Printed on premium quality Giclée Hahnemühle Photo Rag fine art paper.
