Presented is an antique, English sterling silver sauce or gravy ladle made by George Smith I of London in 1737. This mid 18th century, early Georgian piece is done in a classic form and has no monogram. There may have been a monogram at one point, but it has since worn or was removed purposefully a long time ago.The back of the handle is marked with the lion passant for sterling silver purity, the crowned leopard's head for the city of London, a date letter that we believe is b for the year 1737 and a maker's mark for George Smith I. This piece is in great overall condition, especially when considering age. There is surface wear commensurate with age and use as well as a few pin-point dings to the bowl.Length: 7 1/8 inches. Weight: 42 grams.
