Antique 1826 German Silver Plated Pewter Large Tankard Stein
Presented is an unusual German or Swiss silver plated pewter tankard from 1826. This antique piece is large and very heavy with a thick silver plating. The body and lid have threaded bands of decoration and the thumb rest is in a classic ball form. There is a small raised accent at the bottom of the handle and a neat swirl design on the underside of the piece. The top is monogrammed with a worn name and the date 1826. I cannot ever recollect having a large old piece of pewter being silverplated, extremely unusual. The bottom interior of the piece has maker’s marks. This piece is in great condition for its age. There is wear and some minor dings but the piece is in solid overall condition. There are no breaks and no repairs. The piece measures 5 1/4 inches in diameter at the bottom and is 9 1/4 inches tall.
