Antique c1900 Pair German 800 Silver Double Spout Sauce Gravy Boats Underplates

Presented is a fine pair of German silver double ended sauce or gravy boats, with underplates. These dishes date to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The dishes are beautifully hand chased with swags, bellflowers, and medallions featuring men in profile wearing period garb, possibly monarchs. The dishes have underplates that are attached with bolts, so they can be removed for ease of cleaning. The interiors have the remnants of a gold wash. Although these are classic sauce boats, the dishes are quite versatile and could be used to serve a variety of foods. These dishes are in great condition. One of the dishes is missing one of the bolts from the underside, but this is inconsequential, as the bowl is still very firmly attached to the underplate.
