Fantastic Antique Carter Howe & Co. 14k Gold Vesta Case / Match Safe

Presented is a fantastic antique 14 karat gold vesta case or match safe. This piece was made by Carter Howe & Co. The case is very well made, with a hinged lid, a rough stone striker on the side, and a ridged gold striker on the underside. The front of the case has a monogram of FS in flowing, interwoven script. The match safe is stamped with the maker's mark for Carter, Howe & Co as well as 14k and the patent date, June 2 1903. This piece is in great overall condition. There is a tiny dent to one corner. The lid opens smoothly and snaps shut well. There are no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The match safe measures about 2 ¼ tall by 1 3/8 wide by 3/8 of an inch thick. The match safe weighs 37 grams. -jm
