Large c1805 English Sheffield Silverplate Serving Dome Cloche Bell Lid 20 x 15
Presented is an excellent quality English Sheffield fused silverplate serving dome or cloche. This piece was made by Roberts, Cadman & Co and dates to circa 1790-1820. The dome is made in a classic oval form with a high, impressive silhouette. The handle is separately cast, in the form of two interwoven foliate vines with profuse and richly detailed acanthus leaf flourishes at the base. The interior of the bell is tinned, and the rolled over silver edge is visible around the rim. One side of the exterior has a well done sterling silver inset, perfect for a monogram or inscription, which has never been engraved. This dome is stamped on the interior with the maker's mark for Roberts Cadman & Co. This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are a few dings here and there, but nothing of any significance, nothing that stands out without very close inspection. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The dome weighs 6 pound
