Pair Antique 1790 English Sterling Silver 3 Candle Candelabra Candlesticks
Presented is a very fine quality pair of English sterling silver candlesticks or candelabras made in London. Each candlestick was made in 1790, most likely by William Laver of London. The bodies of each candlestick are weighted and have a classical threaded designs. Each candlestick has its old, original bobeche or wax drip. The top portions, the candelabra tops, with the three candle holders, were made later in 1937 and are not weighted, they are also solid sterling silver. These candelabra tops have no weighting in them as previously mentioned and are quite solid and heavy. Although the top portions were made 147 years later, they were made specifically for these candlesticks are a perfectly designed match. Both top portions and their bobeches are marked with the leopard’s head for London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a date letter B for 1937 and a maker’s mark for Isreal Freeman and Son.
