Presented is a wonderful English pearlware porcelain teapot, dating to circa 1800-1810. The pot is made in a classical form, emulating older English silver pots, with fluted decoration in the body and a toothed tongue-and-dart type of design to the upper rim. The sides are beautifully painted with pink and red flowers and green leaves, and panels of puce latticework around the upper body and lid. The lid has a fabulous swan form finial in a rich shade of red. This piece came to us with a letter from the lead interpreter at the Shelburne Museum of Natick, MA responding to the pot's owner's inquiry regarding two similar pearlware pots with swan finials on display, giving us the date range and stating the swan finials were a popular pattern of the time.
