Victorian 10k Gold Black Enameled Hair Mourning Memorial Pin Brooch C1850s

Presented is a nice Victorian 10K gold enameled hair memorial or mourning pin.  The pin contains a lock of braided brown hair under glass, with black enameling around the outside.  The pin is engraved Louis & Maynard on the reverse.  It was made between the 1840s and the 1860s.  It is definitely American in origin. The pin is not marked.  We have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 10K gold. The condition is excellent.  This pin has the original bezel set beveled glass over the hair.  The glasses in excellent condition with only a few minor surface abrasions.  The hair is a little loose in some places and there is a little bit of dirt behind the glass, but this is minor.  The clasp is a modern replacement, but it is much more secure than the original.  The enameling is intact.  There are no chips, no cracks, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The pin measures 1 1/4 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The weight is 10.1 grams.
