Importance: David Tappan (1752-1803) was an American theologian. He occupied the Hollis Chair at Harvard Divinity School until his death in 1803. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1796. He graduated from Harvard University in 1771. He was also a strong supporter of the American Revolution and later the French Revolution. Reverend David Kellogg was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1755. He began his studies under Reverend David Parsons and later graduated from Dartmouth College in 1775. After engaging in theological studies, he preached in Concord and eventually settled in Framingham. Initially declining an invitation to become minister due to the Revolutionary War's disruptions, he accepted in 1780. Kellogg's ministry spanned nearly fifty years, marked by his steadfast adherence to traditional Congregationalist principles and a calm, logical preaching style.
