Upcycled Sari Macramé Plant Holder by Matr Boomie
The macrame planter hanger was made at a training center for women in Jaipur, India. The training center is run by an organization called Bridge to Artisans, which provides women in this low-income community with vocation training to produce products using materials available to them. The goal is to create financial independence for these women as they have always been dependent on men for livelihood. Making an independent income allows each woman to gain self-confidence and find her voice. This macrame hanger is made with upcycled saris, making each one-of-a-kind and reducing waste. Women are also allowed to bring their kids to the center and also get access to literacy and computer training programs. With new international markets open to them through Matr Boomie’s fair trade partnership, artisans are gaining economic stability and future generations can enjoy a more fruitful life. The Matr Boomie artisan communities crafting these products benefit from fair living wages, long term
