J. Lohr 'Wildflower' Valdiguie 2024 (Monterey, CA)

Valdiguié is a very large-berried variety, requiring extra vigilance, requiring aggressive pruning- one bunch per shoot. Otherwise, yields are too high and ripening becomes difficult for this late-maturing variety. At J. Lohr Estates, the goal is to preserve the varietal’s wonderful natural acidity and fresh fruit flavors. Think Gamay with a twist. We get nice spice and vibrant red and dark fruit on the nose. The palate presents with plum and black cherry, a subtle hint of black pepper, good acidity, and a touch of tannin on the finish. We like it best chilled after at least 30-45 minutes in the fridge.
