The godfather of sabremetrics and his daughter dug into the Villisca axe murders -- and hundreds of others with similar characteristics -- and if they didn't crack a hundred-plus-year-old series of cases, they came very close. The book is so absorbing that a creak in the room where I was reading made me jump a mile. I was in a hotel, people. This hardcover is in quite nice shape, very mild shelfwear, slight toning to pages and a couple of scuffs/marks to page edges, and a cut flyleaf — but sits straight, no marks or dog-ears inside that I can see. A nice reading copy.
