Ferrous Sulfate (Iron)
1 - 100g jar of ferrous sulfate (Iron) 5g of Iron will mordant/afterbath approximately 500 grams (1.1 pounds) of fiber Want to know the facts behind our extracts? Find more info here. How to dye? Find our step by step guide here. We use Iron (ferrous sulfate) as a color changer, darkening or “saddening” natural dyes on cellulose fibers. It also increases lightfastness and acts as a mineral mordant for dark shades. The famous black dye recipes from the 17th and 18th century use generous amounts of iron and tannin. Iron reacts with the tannin in many dyestuffs creating colors ranging from chartreuse green to black, depending on the dye it is combined with. • Pomegranate with iron makes a dark olive green• Madder with iron makes a deep grayish purple• Tannin with iron makes a grayed purple• Cutch with iron makes a rich chocolate brown Our iron powder is light green and food grade. Use it either during mordanting or in a post-dye bath. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN/PETS Safe Use of IronThe iron
