Antique 1800's Primitive Slaw Cutter Square Nail Construction and Tombstone Handle

What a wonderful Slaw Cutter that was found on Virginia's Eastern Shore! Rich nutmeg hues sprinkled with dark surface wear to the wood really give this piece character indeed! The patina could not be better and the tombstone top gives this slaw cutter splendid form. Some of the nails are square while the other nails are round. There is evident nail bleed present and the wood is smooth to the touch after years of use. The large circle at the top really adds to the attraction this cutter has to offer! The blade has the perfect amount of dark patina we like to see in a piece this old and the large size makes this slaw cutter impressive. There is a crack on the back side where the nail was driven in. The wood has separated slightly around this nail but is secure. There are also several cracks on the back due to age as can be seen in images 10, 11 & 12. These cracks do not interfere with the stability of the board and do lend age credibility to this piece.
