Antique Splint Melon Basket Special Oval Form

I just love old baskets don’t you? They make for a great display whether filled or just left plain hanging from a lucky beam. This special, tightly woven melon basket exhibits great oval form that also includes an exciting, slight cascade step feature below the edge on the front and back area. The color sporting a light nutmeg hue is very pleasing and so is the thick wooden handle that shows appropriate nail bleed on the lower right and left hand side. There are some areas of loss and a couple small breaks on the inside as shown in images 12 & 14, on the right and left hand side near the bottom of the handle (images 5 & 8) as well as on the front (one area only) and the bottom. The shape of the handle is in a low position and resides close to the opening which comes in handy if you decide to place it inside a cupboard that may have height restrictions.
