Box Grater with Drawer Neat
This unusual late 19th century box grater with a removable drawer is a unique piece to own because of the form and can either be hung or will rest nicely on a table or countertop. The back was carved out of one piece of wood exhibiting a graduated handle along with opposing curved sides. A wine bottle impression is clearly visible on the backside which gives us a clue that the wood used came from an advertising crate that once held bottles of wine. It is difficult to make out the brand name of the wine and the rest of the writing is illegible. Desirable patina that sports a crushed walnut hue along with appropriate nail bleed lends extreme character to the overall look. The punched tin was done by hand and the surface conveys a dark look that we all favor. There is a small slit in the tin that may have been brought on by constant usage located in the middle as shown in image 1.
