Rabbit Cloth Arnold Print Works dated 1892
Meet “Harvey”, a very special rabbit that is hard to find! He has impeccable breeding as Harvey is an authentic creation from “Arnold Print Works, North Adams, Massachusetts” along with his birth date of “October 4th, 1892”. I named him after the wonderful movie portraying a 6 foot tall 3” white rabbit (“pooka”) called “Harvey” released on “December 21st, 1950”, featuring James Stewart. Arnold Print Works purchased animal designed doll patterns that originally consisted of monkeys, dogs, cats and rabbits from Celia and Charity Smith. These were printed on sheets that cost 20 cents each using lithographic printers. Example of a later hen and chicks pattern referenced in image 21. The buyers responsibility would entail cutting out the pattern along with sewing and stuffing. Even though there is a date stamped on the bottom of this rabbit it does not necessarily mean that it was assembled at that time. Therefore this piece is rather hard to date as far as when it was completed.
