Although there's no historical Iron Horse Clan, the tartan symbolizes the connection between Scotland’s industrial past and its traditions. The design was first registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority in 2006.The tartan's colors were chosen to reflect the colors of the trains that were used on Scotland's railways during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The gray and black stripes represent the iron of the locomotives, while the white, blue and red stripes represent the steam that was produced by the engines.
