Stegosaurus, meaning ‘roof lizard’, lived in the Late Jurassic around 155 to 150 million years ago and remains one of the most distinctive dinosaurs ever discovered. Growing up to 30 feet long, Stegosaurus is best known for the two rows of kite-shaped plates along its back and the fearsome spikes of its tail, known as the ‘thagomizer.’ These plates may have been used for thermoregulation or display, while the tail was a powerful weapon against predators like Allosaurus. Despite its imposing armor, Stegosaurus had a brain about the size of a walnut relative to its body, leading to its reputation as one of the less intelligent dinosaurs. However, it thrived in herds across the Jurassic landscape, grazing on ferns and cycads. To help protect the future of paleontological science, we’ll be donating 20% of every order to the Smithsonian Institute!
