The West Indian Manatee, (Trichechus manatus), a gentle giant of the aquatic world, is a magnificent marine mammal known for its serene nature and distinctively large, paddle-like flippers. These peaceful herbivores inhabit the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea and the southeastern United States, making them a beloved symbol of oceanic tranquility. Unfortunately, the West Indian manatee is classified as a vulnerable species, primarily due to habitat loss, entanglement in fishing gear, and watercraft collisions. Despite ongoing conservation efforts, their numbers remain at risk, making awareness and support essential for their survival.
