English Orpingtons were created in the early 1800’s by William Cook and were in huge demand due to their impressive year round egg laying capabilities and impressive meat quality. The first color developed was all black, followed by white, buff and then William Cook created the Diamond Jubilee Orpington and gifted a flock of them to the reigning Queen Victory of the British Monarchy. English Orpingtons were a huge success. This breed of chicken is absolutely gigantic!
